When I updated the brand new R7000 with the new firmware released Sept. 27, 2018 the same results happened. I noticed the units with the new firmware run hotter than before. Going to an older version of firmware eliminated the heat and dying problem. Works now more than just a couple hours. AGAIN, DO NOT USE FIRMWARE V1.0.9.42_10.2.44!

Well, I can't speak for v.42 or any firmware version preceding that because my router shipped with v.64 from the factory. Not had any issues with it, none.
